The Italian Armed Forces has largely been shaped by its geographical position. It's protected by the alps in the north, therefore it focuses mostly on maintaining security in the central Mediterranean. It maintains a military which is well equipped across all three main branches. With a capable defence industry, the Italian Military is armed with an array of modern equipment.

The Italian Army mainly serves as an expeditionary force. Yet unlike some European land forces, is surprisingly well equipped. It's arsenal of C1 Ariete tanks, Centauro tank destroyers, Dardo and Freccia IFVs are more than enough for Italian security concerns. With no major overseas territories, the Italian land forces is equipped well enough for its NATO missions.
The Italian Air Force has been heavily rearming int he last decade. With a fleet consisting of three types of multi role jets as well as the AMX International purely for ground attack purposes the Italian Air Force is more than capable of enforcing security in the central Mediterranean. With the introduction of over 70 F-35s the Italy will have impressive air capabilities.

The Italian Navy is key for Italy's security. This is reflected in it's fleet composition. With two carriers, three LPDs, four destroyers, twelve frigates and eight submarines, the Italian navy has complete superiority in the central Mediterranean. Though the carriers and LPDs are the largest ships in the fleet, the Orizzonte class frigate is the greatest asset in the Italian Navy. There is no doubt that the Italian Navy is one of the most modern and well equipped in not only the Mediterranean but the world. It's strength is growing with the addition of the F-35B.
