China has long been called "the sleeping giant". In recent years it has been awakening. Although previously reliant on Russian hardware, the Chinese have built a formidable defence industry of their own.

China simply put, has one of the largest ground forces on earth. Throughout the years it has been rapidly modernising by introducing new vehicles and weapon systems. It remains to be seen how these will all perform. However the sheer amount of equipment and troops ensures that the PLA is a force to be reckoned with.
The Chinese have been attempting to create a fully indigenous air force for a while and appears as if they've pulled it off. The J-20, J-31 and H-20 projects are set to launch China's air force into a new era. However it is still not known how well these will perform in real combat.

Due to the ongoing tensions in the South China Sea the Navy remains the most important branch of the Chinese Military. China has a massive fleet of submarines, destroyers, corvettes and frigates which it plans to further expand. The Chinese navy has plans to add another aircraft carrier to its fleet by 2023, with more in the pipeline.
